” The idea is to put forward a poetic view that aims particularly at the paradox of our everyday lives which remain, despite the post- industrial and digital era, dependant on the use of mechanics. “

Presented as part of the Aires Libres public art installations curated by Aseman Sabet, LES CHARGEURS DE POTENTIEL (“Potential Chargers”) is a sculptural work composed of motion-sensors, lighting, and a simulacrum of a dicephalic mechanical backhoe. Providing two distinct display modes depending on the viewer’s perspective, the work is designed as a solar-powered two-pronged “hydra.” In daytime, the structure is motionless, with its flower-like bucket “heads” angled upwards in order for built-in solar panels to charge the piece’s internal batteries. At night – to the astonishment of passersby – they perform a luminous choreography over the period of several minutes, while embedded LED lights expend the energy accumulated throughout the day. This “performance” is repeated daily, with perceptible variations depending on the duration of time the panels have been exposed to sunlight.
